Sustainable Food Economy

Sustainable Food Economy

We want Dumfries and Galloway to have a thriving and sustainable food economy. This theme celebrates all the great work already happening, and builds on this to further grow a prosperous, resilient and diverse food economy.

What's the Plan?

Celebrate and support local food and local food producers

Support and encourage more independent food festivals.

Encourage uptake of the Biosphere Accreditation Mark and Biosphere Proud Supporter Scheme.

Communities and businesses have access to locally produced, climate and nature friendly food

Support the development of short supply chain solutions such as the Galloway Food Hub.

Engage with hospitality businesses to test appetite for a sector specific sustainability group.

Local solutions are found to abattoir, butchery and other infrastructure issues

Work collaboratively with farmers and other stakeholders to identify and progress solutions.

What's already happening?

The Biosphere Certification Mark recognises exemplars in local sustainable enterprise. The Certification Mark logo provides assurance to customers and guests that their spend is sustainable: that it will be reinvested in the local community and economy, and that it will support positive environmental practice.
