Good Food Movement

New Paragraph

Good Food Movement

Through this theme we want to build public awareness of 'good food', support active food citizenship, and grow a local good food movement.

What's the Plan?

People come together to talk about creating a better food system

Hold Local Food Gatherings in Autumn each year, and create spaces for citizens to meaningfully participate.

Work in a range of settings to deliver sustainable food and farming education and learning

Volunteering and informal learning; training and apprenticeships; Developing the Young Workforce; Accredited courses and qualifications; education pathways for further education and employment.

What's already happening?

The Dumfries and Galloway Learning for Sustainability Partnership brings together schools, colleges and universities with other learning organisations like the GSA Biosphere, D&G Outdoor Woodland Learning, the Carbon Centre and Propagate. Sustainable food systems are threaded through learning for sustainability.

The D&G Local Food Gatherings have now been held in 2021, 2022 and 2023. These events are the main way the D&G Sustainable Food Partnership engages with citizens across the region. The events are open to all who are working, volunteering or interested in food.

We hold 4 events each year, in different locations from East to West. In 2023 we were in Lockerbie, Moniaive, Kirkcudbright and Stranraer. At each event we heard from local food projects and businesses, enjoyed an amazing lunch, and discussed opportunities to improve food in D&G.

The Good Food Stories are profiles of food projects, businesses and farms who are leading the way on sustainable and good food in Dumfries and Galloway.

Each month we aim to add more profiles to build awareness of the great work already happening in the region - an inspire others.
